10 Easy Paper Plate Crafts for Preschoolers

Our favourite paper plate crafts for preschool aged children – fun yet oh so simple to make

Today we have a round up of our very favourite simple paper plate crafts which are suitable for preschoolers.

Paper plate crafts are the best. Why? Because they’re fun to paint and create, plus the tricky part of drawing and cutting out a circle shape is already done for you, (thanks to the plate!).

This selection of paper plate crafts are particularly suited to younger children (preschool, kindergarten and beyond).

They’re straightforward to make and don’t involve too much fiddly cutting out. A lot of them also include free printable templates which you can print, paint and add to your craft.

I hope you enjoy them!

1. Paper Plate Penguin

Perfect for a winter theme (or just because everybody loves them), this penguin paper plate craft is super simple thanks to our print-and-go template for the wings, flippers and beak.

Throw on some googly eyes and you’re pretty much guaranteed a sweet looking penguin when you’re finished.

2. Paper Plate Lion

This paper plate lion is a fun one for experimenting with colour blending, plus, it involves some scissor practice too!

Great as part of an animal or jungle theme.

3. Paper Plate Donkey

Believe it or not, this sweet donkey fact started out from one paper plate.

Use the free template to add the nose and mouth, plus some wool for a mane!

4. Paper Plate Ladybug

Great for the spring time, this paper plate ladybug is perfect for an insect theme.

It uses two paper plates of different sizes and requires only black and red paint. Children will enjoy painting their bright red ladybugs plus sponging on as many black dots as they wish.

5. Paper Plate Owl

PAPER PLATE OWL CRAFT

This simple paper plate owl is a fun choice for Halloween, or as part of a bird theme.

Our owl’s large eyes come courtesy of two cup cake liners, and its wings, ears and feet can be easily made from construction paper.

6. Paper Plate Space Alien

alien craft for kids

Create this alien spaceship from one paper plate and our printable alien template.

Splatter some white specks of paint onto the black paper plate to give the effect of being in space (and a warning, this part can get pretty messy!).

7. Paper Plate Pig

finished paper plate pig

Our adorable paper plate pig is made from just one paper plate, lots of pink paint, construction paper and a pipe cleaner for the curly tail.

Children will enjoy painting, assembling and drawing on a face for their farmyard friend.

Great for a farmyard or animal theme. Enjoy!

8. Paper Plate Cat

Completed paper plate cat craft

This paper plate cat was inspired by the way cats often curl themselves up so neatly when they are sleeping.

The whole cat is constructed from just one plate, although younger children may need a little help with cutting the feet and tail. Paint your cat whichever colours you like and have fun drawing on a sleeping face to finish.

9. Paper Plate Snowman

Enjoy making these rather charming paper plate snowmen with the help of our printable template (for the hat, bow tie and carrot nose).

Children can make their snowmen unique by adding their own colours and decorations to the hats and bowties.

A fun festive or winter craft.

10. Paper Plate Moose

Living in Canada, it would be wrong of me not to include a paper plate moose as part of our collection!

And I think you’ll agree that this moose is rather charming, with its googly eyes and handprint antlers.

I hope you enjoyed this collection of easy paper plate craft for preschoolers.
