Toilet Roll Snowman

A sweet snowman craft – oh so simple to construct and fun to decorate.
If you’ve ever wondered what you could do with all those spare toilet rolls (besides recycling them of course!), then today we have the answer. Yes, you should most definitely turn them into a cheery toilet roll snowman.
Made from two toilet rolls, this is a fun and really very simple craft to make.
Want to make it? Then get rummaging in the recycling box, grab some toilet rolls and away we go.
Here’s all you need to know:
What you will need
- toilet rolls x 2
- card stock
- white paint
- markers
- pipe cleaners (1 x brown and 1 x any colour of your choice for the scarf)
- stapler and staples
- cotton wool
- glue
How to make a toilet roll snowman, step by step
Step 1
Begin by painting the two toilet rolls white. Depending on the paint you use, you may need to do two coats. If you don’t have any toilet roll tubes, one of the insides of a paper towel roll would work too.

Step 2
On one of the toilet rolls, mark a line a little left of the halfway point. Our tube below is 10cm long so we made a mark at the 4.5cm point so one piece would be 4.5cm and the other 5.5cm in length.
Then cut the tube into two parts, cutting along this line.

Step 3
Take the second toilet roll and trim it so that it is the widest of the three pieces. The widest piece will be the base of the snowman and the smallest will become the snowman’s head.

Step 4
On the smallest piece of cardboard tube, draw a face for your snowman.

Step 5
Next it’s time to join the three pieces of snowman together. For this you will need a stapler.
Younger children will require an adult to do the stapling for them.
Staple the bottom two pieces of the snowman together with one staple which goes through the top of the bottom tube and the bottom of the top tube.

Next staple the top piece of the snowman (with the face) onto the top of the stack.

Step 6
Take a rectangle of card stock (approximately 10 x 15 cm) and glue some cotton wool pieces in a circles shape to the middle of the card. This will make the snowy base for your toilet roll snowman.

Step 7
Next, staple the snowman to the cardboard base.

Step 7
To make a hat for the snowman, take a small piece of card and fold in half.
Draw a hat on one side of the card stock so that the base of the hat is on the fold.
We glued a pom pom on to our hat too.

Staple the flap of the hat onto the top of the snowman.
Step 8
Next, make the twig arms out of a brown pipe cleaner. Fold and twist the ends of the pipe cleaner to make them look a little more twig-like.

Tape the pipe cleaner arms onto the inside of the middle tube, at the front.
Step 9
To finish, add some buttons and a pipe cleaner scarf.
Children can also add any other finishing touches that they wish to their snowman!
And your snowman is complete!

With the flat bases, these snowmen stand up nicely on the shelf for display. Alternatively, you can write a message on the base and give to a friend or loved one in place of a holiday card!
Children can make more than one snowman (depending on how many toilet roll tubes you can get your hands on…). My youngest made a snow lady to be a companion for my snowman:

And that’s our toilet roll snowman! I hope you enjoyed it.
